Alpha Fetoprotein (AFP) is a 70 kDa glycoprotein synthesized during fetal development by the yolk sac and liver, with circulating concentrations falling sharply after birth. Re-expression is observed in hepatocellular carcinoma, non-seminomatous germ cell tumors, and hepatoblastoma, making AFP a clinically validated tumor biomarker and a routine target in prenatal screening protocols.

This Antibodies.com rabbit polyclonal reagent binds native human AFP and is supplied as a 100 µg liquid preparation validated for western blot (WB) and immunocytochemistry (ICC) workflows. For long-term integrity, store the vial at -20 °C in single-use aliquots and limit freeze-thaw cycles; brief storage at 4 °C is acceptable during active use. The unconjugated IgG format allows flexible pairing with reporter-labeled secondary antibodies.

Working dilutions should be titrated empirically against the chosen cell line or tissue preparation, as polyclonal preparations can offer broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives and often benefit from blocking with 5% non-fat milk or normal serum in the detection buffer.
