This unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets adenylate kinase 1 (AK1), a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transfer of a phosphate group between ATP and AMP. The reagent supports research into cellular energy homeostasis, adenine nucleotide metabolism, and conditions linked to disrupted phosphotransfer balance, including studies of hemolytic anemia associated with AK1 deficiency. Raised in rabbit and supplied as a 100 µl liquid aliquot at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the antibody is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows on human, mouse, and rat specimens.

The polyclonal format captures multiple epitopes across the AK1 sequence, which can be advantageous when probing conformational variants, splice isoforms, or partially degraded samples in tissue lysates. For western blot applications, it enables detection of the expected cytosolic band pattern in extracts from skeletal muscle, erythrocytes, and cultured cell lines. In immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded or cryosectioned tissue, the antibody facilitates localization studies in striated muscle and other AK1-expressing compartments, while immunofluorescence supports subcellular imaging to map cytoplasmic and mitochondrial-associated distribution in fixed cells.

Briefly centrifuge the vial before opening, handle with appropriate PPE given the sodium azide preservative, and aliquot on first use to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Store frozen at -20°C for long-term stability, protected from light, and thaw only what is needed for each experiment to preserve binding activity across repeated applications.
