Raised in rabbit as an unconjugated polyclonal reagent, this primary antibody recognizes AIFM1, the mitochondrial flavoprotein commonly referred to as apoptosis-inducing factor. Distributed by Antibodies.com, the antibody is supplied at 100 µl per vial and validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and ELISA workflows in human, mouse, and rat samples.

AIFM1 is synthesized as a precursor that is imported into the mitochondrial intermembrane space, where the mature 67 kDa form supports complex I biogenesis and the respiratory chain. On receipt of an apoptotic signal, the protein is cleaved and a truncated fragment relocates to the nucleus, where it drives large-scale chromatin condensation and DNA loss through a caspase-independent pathway. This dual localization and processing pattern is central to ongoing studies of programmed cell death, neurodegeneration, and mitochondrial disease biology.

The polyclonal format enables recognition of multiple epitopes across the precursor and its cleaved pro-apoptotic breakdown product, which is helpful when distinguishing the full-length mitochondrial pool from the nuclear fragment released during cell death induction. Typical uses include western blot comparison of mitochondrial and nuclear fractions, immunohistochemistry on tissue sections, and immunofluorescence of fixed cells undergoing apoptosis, with secondary antibody and buffer optimization recommended for each sample type.
