A rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com raised against the alpha and beta subunits of adducin, supplied as a 50 µl unconjugated aliquot for western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, and ELISA work against human, mouse, and rat samples.

Adducin is a heterodimeric membrane skeletal protein that caps the fast-growing ends of actin filaments and recruits spectrin to those filaments, anchoring the cortical cytoskeleton of erythrocytes and many other cell types. Phosphorylation by protein kinase C and by calcium/calmodulin-dependent kinase reduces adducin's affinity for actin and spectrin, so the antibody serves as a probe for cytoskeletal remodeling, signaling-dependent changes in cell shape, and membrane stability in differentiated and stressed cells.

The reagent's dual recognition of α and β subunits makes it useful for probing heterodimer assembly, subunit turnover, and phosphorylation state across tissues. In neuroscience, adducin has emerged as a marker of synaptic stability: mouse knockouts of the beta subunit show altered dendritic spine morphology and synaptic deficits, and the antibody has been applied to characterize these phenotypes. Hematology and membrane biology laboratories use it to study red cell cytoskeleton integrity, while cell biology groups employ it to follow cortical actin organization during adhesion, cytokinesis, and polarized migration.
