A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase 12 (ADAM12), also called meltrin-alpha, is a zinc-dependent metalloproteinase that mediates ectodomain shedding, cell–matrix adhesion, and growth-factor signaling. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 15 mM sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, packaged as a 100 µl vial suited to standard western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) protocols.

Reactivity is reported against human, mouse, and rat samples, giving laboratories studying pregnancy biology, skeletal muscle regeneration, fibrosis, and tumor invasion a single reagent that can be applied to cell culture lysates and fixed tissue sections. ADAM12 has been investigated as a biomarker in preeclampsia, in carcinomas of the breast, bladder, and prostate, and in muscular dystrophy models, where changes in its proteolytic activity and expression distinguish healthy from diseased states.

Aliquot upon first thaw to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles, refrigerate the working vial between uses, and protect from light. The polyclonal format presents multiple epitopes of the target, which helps when comparing the long transmembrane ADAM12-L isoform with the shorter secreted ADAM12-S isoform within the same blot or section.
