ACTR3 is part of the Arp2/3 complex, which nucleates new actin filaments and promotes their end-to-side cross-linking into branching meshworks. The complex underpins cellular processes including chemotaxis, cell migration, cell adhesion, and platelet activation, and its activity is regulated by the Rho family of small GTPases. In response to GTP-binding Cdc42, the Arp2/3 complex engages WASP proteins to initiate the formation of lamellipodia and filopodia.
