Alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), encoded by the ACTA2 gene, is the cytoskeletal isoform that defines smooth muscle cells, myofibroblasts, and vascular pericytes. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against α-SMA and is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting studies of vascular remodeling, organ fibrosis, wound repair, and tumor stromal biology.
Supplied as 100 µl of polyclonal antiserum, the reagent preferentially recognizes the smooth muscle actin isoform over cytoplasmic beta- and gamma-actin, aiding in tracking smooth muscle differentiation and myofibroblast transdifferentiation in both tissue sections and cell lysates. For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C; protect from light and limit freeze-thaw cycles to preserve binding activity.
