Produced in rabbit and supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline with 15 mM sodium azide (approx. pH 7.2), this unconjugated polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against ABCA4, the photoreceptor-specific ATP-binding cassette transporter that shuttles N-retinylidene-phosphatidylethanolamine across outer segment disc membranes during the visual cycle. It is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples.

ABCA4 loss-of-function variants drive Stargardt macular dystrophy (STGD1), certain cone-rod dystrophies, and retinitis pigmentosa subtype 19, and ABCA4 sequence changes also modulate risk in age-related macular degeneration. Researchers studying retinal photoreceptor biology, retinoid recycling, or the retinal pigment epithelium use anti-ABCA4 tools to map transporter localization, track protein-level expression changes in disease models, and characterize variant effects in heterologous systems.

The polyclonal format increases the chance of recognizing multiple epitopes, which can help when probing truncated isoforms or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded eye tissue. Each vial contains 100 µl of antibody; aliquot upon first use to limit freeze-thaw cycles and refrigerate for short-term storage. For western blot, expect a band near 250 kDa reflecting the full-length transporter. Standard anti-rabbit secondary antibodies are compatible with this unconjugated format.
