Raised in rabbit against the retinal transporter ABCA4, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com supports protein-level studies of photoreceptor biology and inherited retinal dystrophies. ABCA4 sits in the rim region of outer-segment disc membranes, where it flips N-retinylidene-phosphatidylethanolamine back into the cytosol after photon capture, a step that protects the retina from toxic bisretinoid byproducts such as A2E. Loss-of-function alleles in ABCA4 underlie Stargardt disease type 1 (STGD1) and contribute to cone-rod dystrophy, autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa, and a subset of age-related macular degeneration cases, placing the protein at the center of both basic vision research and translational ophthalmology.

Supplied as a 100 µl vial, the antibody has been validated for Western blot and immunofluorescence workflows against human, mouse, and rat samples, including cell culture and tissue models such as retinal extracts and photoreceptor-derived cell lines. Researchers commonly aliquot the IgG upon arrival and store working stocks at -20 °C, limiting freeze-thaw cycles to preserve reactivity across repeated experiments. Because the reagent is unconjugated, secondary detection systems can be selected independently to suit fluorescence, chemiluminescence, or chromogenic readouts, letting the same primary be used across western blot membranes and fixed tissue sections.
