This polyclonal reagent targets 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase (ABAT), the mitochondrial enzyme that converts the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA into succinic semialdehyde within the GABA shunt of the TCA cycle. Raised in rabbit and supplied by Antibodies.com at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the antibody is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows on human, mouse, and rat samples. It is provided as a 100 µl aliquot of unconjugated IgG and is widely used by neuroscience groups studying GABAergic signaling, seizure susceptibility, and the rare inherited GABA-transaminase deficiency caused by loss-of-function ABAT mutations. The target's mitochondrial localization also makes it a useful marker when investigating neurotransmitter metabolism in brain, liver, and pancreatic tissues, and it supports research into conditions ranging from epilepsy and tremor disorders to broader questions about how GABA catabolism interfaces with cellular bioenergetics.
