Alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), encoded by the ACTA2 gene, is a cytoskeletal isoform routinely used as a marker for smooth muscle cells, myofibroblasts, and cells that have undergone fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition. This unconjugated Mouse monoclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets α-SMA for use in Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows applied to Human, Mouse, and Rat samples.
The reagent is supplied as 100 µL of liquid and is validated for highlighting smooth muscle layers in vascular tissue, staining activated fibroblasts in fibrotic lesions, and labelling pericytes and myofibroblasts within tumor microenvironment studies. Common research uses include wound healing investigations, organ fibrosis models (lung, liver, and kidney), vascular remodeling studies, and characterisation of stromal changes in solid tumors. Because the antibody is unconjugated, it can be paired with a chosen secondary reporter such as an HRP polymer, a fluorescent dye, or a biotinylated secondary depending on the detection chemistry of the experiment.
