The Antibodies.com Anti-5-Methylcytosine Antibody (FITC) is a mouse monoclonal IgM (clone 5MC-CD) that specifically recognises 5-methylcytosine residues in denatured, single-stranded DNA, enabling direct visualisation of methylated DNA without the need for a secondary antibody. The FITC fluorophore is excited by the 488 nm laser line and emits around 519 nm, making the conjugate compatible with standard fluorescence microscopy, ICC/IF imaging, and Southern blot workflows on methylated genomic DNA. Supplied as a 50 ug liquid formulation in a vial, the antibody reacts with methylated DNA from any species, providing a flexible reagent for comparative epigenetics work across human, mouse, plant, and microbial samples. For best results, aliquot on arrival to limit freeze-thaw cycles, store protected from light, and avoid prolonged exposure to ambient illumination during staining. This reagent is for research use only and supports applications such as profiling global DNA methylation, mapping 5mC distribution on slot or dot blots, and visualising methylation patterns in fixed cells and tissue sections.
