The 17β-HSD4 (17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 4) protein is a peroxisomal enzyme with roles in fatty acid β-oxidation and steroid hormone metabolism. This polyclonal antibody, raised in rabbit, detects endogenous 17β-HSD4 across human, mouse, and rat samples, giving investigators broad cross-species coverage for comparative work. Supplied by Antibodies.com as a 100 µl aliquot of unconjugated antiserum, the reagent is intended for western blot and ELISA workflows in basic research laboratories.

17β-HSD4, also referred to as D-bifunctional protein or multifunctional protein 2 (MFP2), combines hydratase, dehydrogenase, and sterol-carrier-like activities within a single polypeptide. Loss-of-function mutations in the encoding gene are linked to D-bifunctional protein deficiency, a peroxisomal biogenesis disorder characterized by accumulation of very long chain fatty acids. Researchers studying steroidogenic tissues, hepatic and neural lipid handling, or peroxisomal disease models can use this antibody to confirm expression in cell culture lysates and tissue homogenates, or to validate genetic and pharmacological perturbations in vitro. The unconjugated format also leaves the antibody available for downstream reporter conjugation in custom immunoassay development.
