(2R)-Octyl-alpha-hydroxyglutarate, 5 mg

A cell-permeable derivative of α-hydroxyglutarate (2-HG) supplied by STEMCELL Technologies. (2R)-Octyl-α-hydroxyglutarate inhibits α-ketoglutarate (αKG)-dependent dioxygenases by competing with αKG for binding to this family of enzymes. Mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) and IDH2 are associated with certain cancers; these enzymes convert isocitrate to 2-HG rather than αKG, leading to high levels of accumulated 2-HG in cancer cells. The compound is useful for investigating oxidative mitochondrial processes of IDH mutations in cancer research.

The chemical formula is C13H24O5 with a molecular weight of 260.3 g/mol and a purity of ≥ 95%. It is supplied as a crystalline solid. The product is stable at -20 °C as supplied; prolonged exposure to light should be avoided, and for long-term storage a desiccant is recommended. It is stable as supplied for 12 months from date of receipt. Reported solubility values are PBS (pH 7.2) ≤ 3.8 mM, DMSO ≤ 35 mM, and absolute ethanol ≤ 75 mM.
