Description

A fluorescent glucose analog supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is used as an indicator for cell viability by monitoring glucose uptake in living cells. The glucose moiety is provided as a mixture of α and β enantiomers.

Also known as NBD-Glucose (molecular formula C12H14N4O8, molecular weight 342.3 g/mol, CAS 186689-07-6, purity ≥ 98%), the compound displays excitation and emission maxima at 465 nm and 540 nm, respectively. Its full chemical name is 2-deoxy-2-[(7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]-D-glucose. In published cancer research, it has been used to measure changes in glycolysis and has potential for application in breast cancer cells.

The product is supplied as a crystalline solid. It remains stable at -20 °C as supplied and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light; for long-term storage, it should be kept with a desiccant. It is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. Reported solubility is ≤ 25 mM in PBS (pH 7.2), ≤ 25 mM in DMSO, and ≤ 55 mM in absolute ethanol. As an example, a 10 mM stock in DMSO is prepared by resuspending 1 mg in 292 μL of DMSO, and stock solutions should be prepared fresh before use. For research use only; not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses.
