Description

A fluorescent glucose analog used as an indicator for cell viability by monitoring glucose uptake in living cells. The compound displays excitation and emission maxima at 465 nm and 540 nm, respectively. The glucose moiety is supplied as a mixture of α and β enantiomers.

Also known as NBD-Glucose (CAS 186689-07-6), this small molecule has the chemical name 2-deoxy-2-[(7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]-D-glucose and the formula C12H14N4O8, with a molecular weight of 342.3 g/mol and a purity of ≥ 98%. The product is supplied as a crystalline solid.

STEMCELL Technologies recommends storage at -20°C, protected from prolonged exposure to light, with a desiccant for long-term storage. It is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. Reported solubility limits are ≤ 25 mM in PBS (pH 7.2), ≤ 25 mM in DMSO, and ≤ 55 mM in absolute ethanol. Published applications include measuring changes in glycolysis, with potential use in breast cancer cell research. Stock solutions should be prepared fresh before use, and the effect of storage on compound performance should be tested for each application.
