STEMCELL Technologies supplies this stabilized derivative of Prostaglandin E2, which acts as a competitive inhibitor of 15-hydroxy prostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-hydroxy PGDH) but is not a substrate for the enzyme. Because of its resistance to metabolism by 15-hydroxy PGDH, the compound has a prolonged half-life in vivo. It also functions as an agonist on most prostaglandin E (EP) receptor subtypes, with a Kd for activation of isolated EP2 receptors of about 1 nM.

Published applications include the maintenance and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). The compound has been shown to increase HSPC numbers in the zebrafish aorta-gonad-mesonephros (AGM) region and mouse bone marrow, and to mediate the effects of WNT on zebrafish HSPC self-renewal. The product is supplied in methyl acetate solution and has a chemical formula of C22H36O5, a molecular weight of 380.5 g/mol, and a purity of ≥ 98%.
