Solution PM1 (55 ml)

A microbiome RNA isolation kit from QIAGEN enables purification of total RNA from stool, gut material, dried feces, contaminated buccal swabs and secretions. The kit pairs mechanical bead-beating lysis with the patented Inhibitor Removal Technology (IRT) to strip away common PCR inhibitors such as undigested plant material and heme compounds from lysed red blood cells. The resulting RNA is free of inhibitors and ready for demanding downstream applications including RT-PCR, qPCR and RNA-seq.

Provided in a silica spin filter tube format, the workflow uses Glass Bead Tubes with 0.1 mm beads together with a series of labelled solutions (PM1 through PM8). Genomic DNA is removed on-column using the provided DNase I, and RNA is eluted in RNase-Free Water. The kit also isolates miRNA and can optionally co-isolate DNA through a simple on-column procedure. A 0.25 g input of stool or biosolid is processed within a 45-minute prep, accommodating 1-24 samples per run, and the workflow can be automated on the QIAcube Connect.

Lyophilized DNase I is stored at 4°C, while all other reagents and kit components are stored at room temperature (15-30°C). The product is intended for research use only and is not for diagnostic use. QIAGEN notes that the RNeasy PowerMicrobiome Kit was formerly sold by MO BIO as the PowerMicrobiome RNA Isolation Kit.
