A reconstitution buffer supplied by QIAGEN for use with the company's lyophilized protease enzyme, this sodium azide-preserved solvent supports nucleic acid purification workflows by solubilizing the dry enzyme pellet into an active, ready-to-use working stock. Sodium azide is included at a low working concentration to suppress microbial growth, extending the functional lifetime of the reconstituted enzyme during multi-day batch processing on the molecular biology bench.

Reconstitution is performed by pipetting the solvent directly into the vial of lyophilized QIAGEN Protease, mixing gently, and confirming full solubilization before adding the enzyme stock to the lysis buffer (typically Buffer AL or Buffer ATL, depending on the parent kit). Once dissolved, the protease solution tolerates multiple freeze-thaw cycles when split into single-use aliquots, supporting reproducible DNA recovery from tissue, swab, cell suspension, and liquid biopsy specimens.

Common applications include genomic DNA extraction from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections, pathogen DNA preparation from clinical samples, and total RNA workflows from cultured cells. The azide content keeps the working dilution stable at room temperature between aliquot pulls. The unreconstituted solvent bottle is held at ambient temperature; reconstituted protease aliquots are refrigerated and consumed within the time window defined in the relevant kit handbook.

Packaged in a screw-cap bottle for bench-side convenience, the reagent integrates with manual spin-column protocols as well as automated QIAsymphony and QIAcube runs, allowing laboratories to scale sample throughput without re-optimizing lysis conditions.
