PowerProtect DNA/RNA (500 ml)

A reagent from QIAGEN that stabilizes and preserves the microbial community profile and gene expression profile in stool samples. The stool material should be submerged completely in at least 4 volumes of reagent (approximately 2 ml per 500 mg stool); up to 9 volumes are recommended for dry samples. Once stabilized, bacterial DNA remains stable indefinitely at 4–25°C, and bacterial RNA for at least 2 months at the same temperatures. At 35°C, DNA is stable for at least 14 days and RNA for 3 days.

For long-term storage (years), stabilized samples are recommended at 2–8°C, or frozen at −30 to −15°C or −90 to −65°C within the reagent. The product is shipped at room temperature (15–25°C) and stored at room temperature upon receipt. Up to 3 stainless steel beads (5 or 7 mm) are added during sample stabilization to facilitate mixing. Before nucleic acid extraction, PBS is added at 1.5 times the reagent volume, followed by centrifugation for 10–20 min at 5000 x g.

The pellet can be processed using QIAGEN kits such as the RNeasy PowerFecal Pro Kit, QIAamp PowerFecal Pro Kit, DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit, QIAsymphony PowerFecal Pro DNA Kit, MagAttract PowerSoil Pro Kit, DNeasy 96 PowerSoil Pro Kit, QIAcube HT Kit, or AllPrep PowerFecal Pro DNA/RNA Kit. Purified DNA is suitable for PCR, qPCR and next-generation sequencing, while RNA can be used in RT-PCR, qPCR, digital PCR, RNA-seq and metatranscriptome analyses. The product is intended for molecular biology applications and is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. Each lot is tested under an ISO-certified Quality Management System. The reagent has not been tested for stabilization of DNA and RNA in bacterial cultures, whole blood, plasma, or serum samples.
