Human XpressRef Universal Total RNA

QIAGEN's total RNA reference reagent is intended for use as an internal control in array analysis. The human variant is part of a product line also offered for mouse and rat, and is formulated to provide a broad representation of genes from the specified organism. It supports troubleshooting in real-time or semi-quantitative RT-PCR gene expression analyses when the gene of interest is difficult to detect, and can be used to optimize real-time RT-PCR gene expression assays by allowing the determination of amplification efficiencies when experimental RNA samples are precious.

The reagent is shipped at –20°C and should be stored at –80°C for long-term use; under these conditions it is stable for one year after receipt. Quality control includes verification by denaturing agarose-gel electrophoresis, with distinct 28S and 18S ribosomal bands observed. According to a third-party application note, the material contains both small and large RNA and can serve as a positive control in RNA workflows.
