RNAprotect Animal Blood Tubes 100µl (50)

Animal blood samples require immediate stabilization of intracellular RNA to preserve sample integrity. QIAGEN RNAprotect Animal Blood Tubes are designed for this purpose: each tube contains a reagent that lyses blood cells and stabilizes RNA at the point of collection. After blood is dispensed into the tube, the tube is gently inverted 8–10 times. Samples can then be stored upright at 15–25°C for up to 48 hours, at 2–8°C for up to 14 days, or at –15 to –30°C or below for several months. To ensure efficient cell lysis, the tube must be kept at 15–25°C for at least 2 hours prior to cold or frozen storage. Tubes are not intended for reuse.

The tubes are used as part of the RNeasy Protect Animal Blood System. Following stabilization, RNA is purified using the RNeasy Protect Animal Blood Kit, which is ordered separately. The system supports purification of total RNA, including miRNA, using silica spin-column technology, with an elution volume of 14 µl. Reported system yields are 10–30 µg for rat blood (500 µl) and 4–8 µg for mouse blood (100 µl). Purified RNA is suitable for downstream applications such as Northern, dot, and slot blotting, end-point RT-PCR, quantitative real-time RT-PCR, array analysis, and next-generation sequencing. The tubes remain stable for at least 9 months when stored at 15–25°C. The products are intended for molecular biology applications and are not intended for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease.
