The Human S100BB (Active) recombinant protein offered by Antibodies.com is a biologically active homodimer of the S100 calcium-binding protein B subunit, retaining native calcium-binding function for use as a positive control or reference standard in neuroscience and oncology research.
S100B is expressed at high levels in astrocytes and is widely investigated as a serum biomarker of traumatic brain injury, blood-brain barrier disruption, and melanoma progression. The active BB homodimer (~21 kDa) contains two EF-hand motifs per monomer that coordinate calcium ions and modulate interaction with downstream target proteins such as p53.
This preparation is supplied as a 1 mg liquid formulation for in vitro assay development, including ELISA standard curves, western blot calibration, and receptor-binding studies. Recommended storage is at -80 degrees C in single-use aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve functional activity over the stated shelf life.
