The HSV-2 glycoprotein G (gG) recombinant antigen from Antibodies.com is a highly purified immunoreactive protein supplied at greater than 90% purity, intended for type-specific serological studies of Herpes Simplex Virus 2. Produced through recombinant expression rather than from viral lysates, it provides reproducible performance across lots and removes the requirement for BSL-2 viral culture in the laboratory.

Each vial contains 100µg of recombinant antigen validated for ELISA and Western blot workflows. The reagent supports research into HSV-2 prevalence, vaccine candidate screening, and the development of type-specific diagnostic assays. Glycoprotein G is the defining target for HSV-2 antibody discrimination, because the gG-2 sequence shares minimal homology with the HSV-1 gG-1 counterpart, reducing cross-reactivity in well-optimized serological tests. In indirect ELISA, the antigen is immobilized on microplate wells to capture circulating IgG; in Western blot, the protein can be separated by SDS-PAGE, transferred to nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes, and probed with patient sera or monoclonal anti-HSV-2 antibodies.

For long-term stability, store the lyophilized or reconstituted material at -20°C, ideally divided into single-use aliquots that limit repeated freeze-thaw exposure. Working dilutions in assay buffer remain suitable for ELISA plate coating and Western blot loading across multiple experimental sessions when handled on ice and returned to the freezer promptly after use.
