d12-Tube Magnet

QIAGEN's tube magnet is a convenient separation device designed for separating magnetic particles in 1.5 ml, 2 ml, 15 ml or 50 ml tubes. It supports workflows including cell separation, magnetocapture, immunoassays, and purification of 6xHis-tagged proteins.

The device consists of a series of 12 powerful NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) magnetic disks, each generating a magnetic field strength of greater than 20 megaoersted. Each magnetic disk attracts beads in an adjacent 1.5 ml or 2 ml tube fitted in a hole. After capture of 6xHis-tagged proteins, the magnetic beads are pulled to the side of the tubes and held in place while buffers are exchanged. Removal of the magnetic field allows easy resuspension of the magnetic particles. A second series of holes enables resuspension of the magnetic beads away from the magnetic field for thorough washing.

QIAGEN recommends this magnet for use in the Qproteome Plasma Membrane Protein procedure, which requires 1.5 ml/2.0 ml reaction tubes. Alternatively, comparable tube magnets or a standard clipboard magnet may also work.
