Engineered for the QIAsymphony SP automated sample preparation workflow, Buffer AP1 from QIAGEN contains guanidine-based chaotropic salts that rapidly inactivate viruses and pathogens while releasing nucleic acids from serum- or plasma-derived specimens, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine. The buffer is optimized for use alongside Buffer AVE, proteinase K, and carrier RNA within the QIAsymphony DSP Virus/Pathogen Mini and Midi Kits (e.g., catalogue 937036, 937055), where it loads directly into the designated reagent cartridge position. Bottles are available in 200 mL and 250 mL formats calibrated to instrument bay geometry, supporting consistent lysis across batch sizes without manual reagent transfer.

Used in routine molecular diagnostic and viral surveillance workflows, Buffer AP1 contributes to the integrity of downstream real-time PCR, sequencing, and other amplification-based assays. The reagent is intended for in vitro research and diagnostic applications and supports storage at controlled room temperature (15-25°C) away from direct light, preserving activity throughout its shelf life when unopened. By streamlining the lysis step and minimizing handling of infectious material, Buffer AP1 helps laboratories standardize output quality across multiple sample runs.
