Description
Manufactured by MOLEQULE-ON, New Zealand, this reagent is DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole), a high-affinity fluorescent DNA stain widely used as a nuclear counterstain in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. The product is supplied as a powder intended for the preparation of concentrated stock solutions for laboratory use.
When bound to DNA, the stain produces bright blue fluorescence with a high signal-to-noise ratio and is compatible with common UV/blue filter sets. It is suitable for fixed and permeabilized cells and tissue sections, and can be used at low concentrations for limited live-cell applications. Reported spectral properties are excitation at approximately 358 nm and emission at approximately 461 nm (typical).
Typical applications include fluorescence and confocal microscopy, immunocytochemistry counterstaining, chromosome and nuclear morphology studies, and flow cytometry DNA content analysis. The reagent should be stored desiccated at -20 °C away from light, with working stocks prepared immediately before use. Appropriate PPE should be worn and the product safety datasheet followed.
