Description

Supplied through MOLEQULE-ON, New Zealand (offered by supplier EMDA), this research-grade crystalline product contains the plant signalling molecule 3-indolacetic acid (IAA, CAS 87-51-4), intended for plant physiology, tissue culture, and molecular biology applications. As the principal natural auxin, IAA is widely used as a plant growth regulator and research reagent to promote cell elongation, root induction, and callus formation, and to study auxin signalling in plant biology.

The material is described as an off-white to tan crystalline powder with the molecular formula C10H9NO2 and a molecular weight of ~175.18–175.19 g·mol⁻¹. It is commonly offered at ≥98% purity for research use, with a literature melting point of ~165–169 °C. In plant tissue culture and media formulations it is typically employed at low micromolar working concentrations for organogenesis and rooting, with optimal dose depending on species and application.

IAA is sparingly soluble in water and soluble in DMSO, ethanol, or dilute alkaline (NaOH/KOH) solutions; concentrated stocks are usually prepared in DMSO or dilute base, filter-sterilised through a 0.22 µm membrane, and added to cooled media. The compound is also employed as a research reagent in auxin-inducible degron (AID) systems and related molecular biology tools. Stocks should be prepared in amber vials with light and air exposure minimised, stock solutions should not be autoclaved, and the material should be stored cold — typically ≤ -20 °C for long term or 4 °C for short term — protected from light. Lot-specific purity and hazard information should be confirmed via the supplier's Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet prior to use.
