The assay uses a pre-coated 96-well microplate (12 x 8 well strips) and employs a biotinylated detection antibody, HRP-Avidin conjugate and TMB substrate to produce a colourmetric signal read at 450 nm.

Key specifications include a sensitivity of <0.059 ng/ml, an assay range of 0.156–10 ng/ml and a total assay time of 4 h 30 min. Reported average recovery in serum samples is 91% (range 80–102%, n=5), with EDTA plasma at 91% (81–101%, n=5) and heparin plasma at 84% (80–89%, n=5).
