The assay uses the sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique, with a target-specific antibody pre-coated on the plate, a biotinylated detection antibody, HRP-Avidin conjugate, and TMB substrate that produces a colour change read at 450 nm.

Performance figures from the manufacturer include a sensitivity of <26.5 pg/ml, an assay range of 62.5–4000 pg/ml, and a total assay time of 4 hours 30 minutes. Reported average recovery across five samples is 91% in serum, 96% in EDTA plasma and 94% in heparin plasma. Results are read on a standard colourimetric microplate reader.
