The assay uses a pre-coated 96-well microplate arranged as 12 x 8 well strips and follows a sandwich immunoassay format, employing a biotinylated anti-NAGA detection antibody and an HRP-Avidin conjugate to generate a colourmetric signal read at 450 nm.

Reported performance characteristics include a sensitivity of <0.127 ng/ml and an assay range of 0.312–20 ng/ml, with an assay time of 4 h 30 m. Recovery in spiked samples is reported across serum (n=5, range 80–102%, average 91%), EDTA plasma (n=5, range 81–100%, average 90%) and heparin plasma (n=5, range 80–89%, average 84%), and dilution linearity is provided at 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 sample dilutions.
