The kit uses a pre-coated microplate format and a sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Standards and samples are added to wells where the target is captured by the immobilised antibody; detection relies on a Biotinylated Anti-IRAKM Antibody and an HRP-Avidin conjugate. TMB substrate is added to visualise the enzymatic reaction, producing a blue product that turns yellow after addition of an acidic stop solution, and absorbance is read at 450 nm in a colorimetric microplate reader with the concentration calculated from a standard curve.

The assay has a reported sensitivity of less than 0.23 ng/ml and a working range of 0.781–50 ng/ml, with an assay time of 4h 30m. According to the manufacturer, spike-and-recovery in serum was 80–102% (average 91%, n=5), in EDTA plasma 81–100% (average 90%, n=5), and in heparin plasma 80–89% (average 84%, n=5). Dilution-linearity data were likewise reported for the same sample types across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16.
