The assay uses the sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique with a pre-coated microplate of 12 x 8 well strips, a biotinylated anti-DMT1 detection antibody, an HRP-avidin conjugate, and TMB substrate, with absorbance read at 450 nm on a colorimetric microplate reader.

Reported performance characteristics include a sensitivity of <0.112 ng/ml and an assay range of 0.312-20 ng/ml, with a total assay time of 4h 30m. Spike-and-recovery ranges are 80-102% for serum (n=5), 81-100% for EDTA plasma (n=5), and 80-89% for heparin plasma (n=5). Linearity across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions is provided for serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma.
