The assay employs a pre-coated 96-well microplate to which an antibody specific for CECR1 is immobilised; standards and samples are added, the captured analyte is detected with a biotinylated anti-CECR1 antibody, and HRP-avidin with TMB substrate is used to generate a colour signal read at 450 nm against a standard curve.

Reported performance characteristics include a sensitivity of less than 0.115 ng/ml and an assay range of 0.312–20 ng/ml. Mean recovery in spiked samples is approximately 91% in serum (range 80–102%, n=5), 90% in EDTA plasma (range 81–100%, n=5) and 84% in heparin plasma (range 80–89%, n=5). The full protocol is completed in 4 h 30 min, and kit components should be stored at +4°C or -20°C as instructed.
