Genomic DNA Purification Kit, 250Preps

A membrane-based system from STEMCELL Technologies for purifying high-quality genomic DNA from mouse tails, animal tissues, and cultured cells using a benchtop microcentrifuge. The system handles up to 20 mg of tissue or between 1 × 10⁴ and 5 × 10⁶ tissue culture cells per purification, and genomic DNA can be obtained from cells in as little as 20 minutes.

Purified DNA is suitable for downstream applications including agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction enzyme digestion, and PCR analysis. The method relies on DNA binding to silica membranes in the presence of chaotropic salts: samples are lysed in detergents, the lysate is passed through a minicolumn by microcentrifugation so that DNA binds to the silica, salts are removed by ethanol-based washing, and the DNA is eluted in nuclease-free water. For tissue samples, an overnight digestion with Proteinase K is required prior to purification.
