From Antibodies.com, this competitive ELISA kit is designed for the in vitro quantitative determination of Aldosterone in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids. With general (universal) reactivity, the assay uses a pre-coated 96-well microplate (12 x 8 well strips) with colourimetric detection at 450 nm. The assay is based on a competitive enzyme immunoassay: Aldosterone in samples or standards competes with immobilised Aldosterone antigen for binding sites on a biotinylated anti-Aldosterone antibody. After washing, an HRP-avidin conjugate is added and TMB substrate produces a coloured product read at 450 nm. The colour intensity is inversely proportional to the amount of Aldosterone in the sample.

The detection range is 31.2–2000 pg/ml with a sensitivity of 11.2 pg/ml. Reported recovery from spiked samples (n=5) ranges from 80–102% (average 91%) for serum, 81–100% (average 90%) for EDTA plasma, and 80–89% (average 84%) for heparin plasma. Dilution linearity (1:2 to 1:16) was demonstrated across the same matrices with values generally ranging from 74% to 108%.

Supplied components include the pre-coated microplate, lyophilised standard, detection solutions, sample dilution buffer, wash buffer (30X concentrate), TMB substrate, stop solution and adhesive plate sealers. Kit components are stored at +4°C or −20°C as instructed; the kit should not be used past its expiration date, and freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided.
