Quantitative measurement of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), a 67 kDa fetal glycoprotein, in equine serum is central to veterinary diagnostics, where AFP serves as a biomarker for hepatic disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, yolk sac tumors, and neonatal isoerythrolysis risk in horses. Synthesized primarily by the fetal liver and yolk sac during gestation, AFP concentrations decline markedly after birth, allowing serial measurements to evaluate fetal maturity and neonatal hepatic function. The Antibodies.com kit is supplied as a 48-test pack with a pre-coated microplate, calibrated reference standards, and detection reagents for quantifying AFP in equine samples using ELISA methodology. Supporting research in equine reproductive physiology, neonatal medicine, and hepatic function studies, the assay is intended for research use only and serves veterinary diagnostic laboratories, university research programs, and commercial breeding operations monitoring pregnant mares and neonatal foals.
