The assay employs a pre-coated microplate (12 x 8 well strips) with a biotinylated anti-FGF1 detection antibody and HRP-avidin conjugate, yielding a colourmetric signal read at 450 nm.

Sensitivity is reported as <30.2 pg/ml with a standard range of 62.5-4000 pg/ml, and total assay time is approximately 4 hours 30 minutes. Recovery values are 80%-102% (avg. 91%, n=5) for serum, 81%-100% (avg. 90%, n=5) for EDTA plasma, and 80%-89% (avg. 84%, n=5) for heparin plasma. Linearity across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 is also documented for serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma.
