DAPI
DAPI — DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) is a high-affinity fluorescent DNA stain used as a nuclear counterstain in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. Manufactured by MOLEQULE-ON, New Zealand and supplied by EMDA, this reagent is provided as a 5 mg powder ideal for preparing concentrated stock solutions for laboratory use.
- Key features: bright blue fluorescence when bound to DNA, high signal-to-noise for nuclear staining, compatible with common UV/blue filter sets, suitable for fixed and permeabilized cells and tissue sections, and usable at low concentrations for limited live-cell applications.
- Spectral properties: excitation ~358 nm, emission ~461 nm (typical).
- Formulation & sizing: powder, 5 mg vial (store desiccated and protected from light).
- Storage & handling: store at -20°C away from light; prepare working stocks immediately before use; wear appropriate PPE and follow the product safety datasheet.
- Typical applications: fluorescence and confocal microscopy, immunocytochemistry counterstain, chromosome and nuclear morphology studies, and flow cytometry DNA content analysis.
This description supplements the existing entry for DAPI by adding practical specifications, manufacturer information, handling and application guidance to help select and use the reagent effectively.
