Proteinase K

Proteinase K — Proteinase K with extended technical details to support laboratory use.

Overview & form: Recombinant, broad-spectrum serine protease supplied as a lyophilized powder in a 100 mg vial. Engineered for robust proteolytic activity and compatibility with common detergents and chaotropes.

Primary applications: Digestion of contaminating proteins, inactivation of RNases and DNases during nucleic acid purification, tissue and cell lysis, sample preparation for PCR, sequencing and other downstream molecular biology assays.

Performance and handling: Active over a wide pH and temperature range (commonly used 37-65°C; optimum near 56°C). Retains activity in presence of SDS and urea. Reconstitute in nuclease-free water or appropriate buffer (for example 50 mM Tris pH 8.0, 1 mM CaCl2). Typical working concentrations depend on sample type (commonly 0.1-1 mg/mL); incubate until digestion is complete and apply heat inactivation or protease inhibitors as required by the protocol.

Storage & stability: Store lyophilized at -20°C for long-term stability; short-term storage at 4°C is acceptable. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot after reconstitution.

Manufacturer information: Manufactured by MOLEQULE-ON, New Zealand.

Key features: Broad substrate specificity, detergent and denaturant tolerant, effective nuclease removal for clean nucleic acid yields, supplied in a convenient 100 mg size for multiple extractions.

Safety & support: Use appropriate PPE and follow institutional safety procedures. Distributed by EMDA. For detailed protocols, recommended buffers and troubleshooting, consult the manufacturer technical datasheet.
